Purpose

Mission of Ethnic Studies  

The mission of the Ethnic Studies minor is threefold.  One, to help students understand the ethnic and racial history and culture of the United States. Two, take the information learned about the ethnic and racial history and culture of the United States to better understand others, themselves and their place in the world. Three, apply the knowledges, competencies, and skills learned in the minor to become active citizens in their respective communities.  

What can you do with an Ethnic Studies Minor?  

A minor in Ethnic Studies provide students a foundation in a myriad of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, arts, education, business, and STEM. With that, students who minor in Ethnic Studies will be prepared to work in a number of fields including health and medicine, human services, business & entrepreneurship, education, government agencies, science, engineering, and technology, sustainability, and many other allied fields. Further, students who minor in Ethnic Studies and participate in programmatic events connected to ethnic studies will have knowledges and experiences that will inform the way they navigate and impact the spaces and places in which they operate, from the personal and familial to the professional and political.
